Cuba's first lady of the theater, Casanova here covers the period of her life from the 1940s through the '80s. To date the only woman to achieve success as a writer and director in Cuban theater, Casanova des- cribes theater in Cuba before Castro, when art, she states, "was a main preoccupation on the island."
